LVT & Vinyl Flooring

Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and vinyl plank flooring have become the go-to choice for kitchens, bathrooms and busy family homes. Unlike laminate, LVT is fully waterproof throughout its entire thickness — water cannot damage it even if left standing. Modern LVT reproduces wood and stone textures convincingly, and embossed-in-register products are almost indistinguishable from real wood.

LVT is available as click-fit planks (no adhesive required), glue-down tiles and planks, or loose-lay sheets. Sheet vinyl remains the most cost-effective option and provides a seamless, watertight finish. Your fitter will recommend the right system for your subfloor and usage.

What’s involved

  • ✓ Subfloor flatness check (LVT requires ±2mm tolerance)
  • ✓ Subfloor repair or self-levelling compound if needed
  • ✓ Underlay selection (if not pre-attached)
  • ✓ Click, glue or loose-lay installation
  • ✓ Cutting around cabinets, pipes and doorframes
  • ✓ Threshold strips and silicone finishing around baths and showers

Typical costs

£25–£55 per m² supply and fitted for click LVT. Sheet vinyl from £15–£30 per m² fitted. Glue-down LVT falls between the two.

Prices vary by region, subfloor condition and product choice. Compare 3 quotes for the most accurate price for your specific job.

FAQs — LVT & Vinyl Flooring

Is LVT truly waterproof?
Yes. The entire plank or tile is made from PVC, so water cannot soak through it. This makes it suitable for bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms. The key is to ensure threshold strips and edges are sealed to prevent water getting under the floor.
What is the difference between click LVT and glue-down LVT?
Click LVT floats on the subfloor and can be removed and replaced. Glue-down LVT bonds directly to the subfloor, feels more solid underfoot, and is better for heavy commercial use. Your fitter will recommend the right option.
Can LVT be fitted over an existing floor?
In some cases, yes — provided the existing floor is flat, secure and dry. Fitting over an existing floor raises the height by a few mm, which may affect doors and transitions.
How flat does the subfloor need to be for LVT?
LVT manufacturers typically require ±2mm over a 2m straightedge. Any unevenness must be corrected with self-levelling compound before fitting.
How much does LVT fitting cost?
Click LVT typically costs £25–£55 per m² supply and fitted. Sheet vinyl is £15–£30 per m² fitted. Compare 3 quotes to find the best price for your job.
