Flooring installation time depends on the type of floor, the room size, and how well the subfloor is prepared. Here are realistic timeframes for common jobs.

Laminate and engineered wood (click system)

  • Small bedroom (up to 10m²): half a day
  • Living room (15–25m²): one day
  • Open-plan ground floor (40m²+): one to two days

Add half a day if the subfloor needs levelling or there is extensive furniture to move.

LVT (click or glue-down)

  • Kitchen (10–15m²): half a day to one day
  • Full ground floor (30–50m²): one to two days

Glue-down LVT takes longer to install but the floor can usually be walked on after a few hours.

Carpet

  • Single bedroom: two to three hours
  • Whole house (4–5 rooms + stairs): one full day

Stairs add significant time — a single flight typically takes one to two hours including gripper rods and underlay.

Solid and hardwood (nail-down or glue-down)

  • Medium room (15–20m²): one to two days
  • Larger areas: allow two to three days plus 48–72 hours acclimatisation before fitting

What causes delays?

The most common causes of extended project time are subfloor issues, awkward room layouts (bays, alcoves, multiple doorways) and moving heavy furniture. Your fitter will give you a clear timeframe when they quote.
